Outdoor Adventure trips and activities are designed to be collaborative and engaging, providing opportunities to build community, forge new connections, and enjoy memorable experiences. Participants are supported and encouraged to overcome challenges, develop new skills, and contribute to the group by assisting with tasks such as loading and unloading equipment, cooking, and cleaning.

Outdoor Adventure offers a variety of trips to suit every level of experience and interest. Day trips include activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, and caving. Weekend trips feature camping and rock climbing, while break trips take participants across the country to explore national parks, go backpacking, camping, rock climbing, and more!

At Outdoor Adventure, we believe success is not just measured by how high you climb or how well you paddle—it's about stepping outside your comfort zone and embracing new adventures.

More About Outdoor Adventure Trips and Activities

Students posing on a ski slope

Our trips are designed to provide fun, accessible outdoor adventures for participants of all skill levels. Led by our enthusiastic and trained Student Trip Leaders—with professional staff joining for longer trips—each adventure is a safe, engaging, and unforgettable experience.

We make it easy for everyone to participate by providing all necessary gear, though you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Trip Leaders will also share a detailed packing list beforehand so you’ll know exactly what to bring. Generally, participants only need to pack personal items like clothing, toiletries, and snacks. For longer trips, participants must attend a pre-trip meeting to go over the itinerary, packing recommendations, and other important details.

The registration fee covers the essentials—transportation, equipment, meals, and guidance—ensuring trips remain affordable while focusing solely on the experience itself. Outdoor trips are open to all Illinois State University students and offer a unique way to connect with nature, meet new people, and create lasting memories!
