Starved Rock State Park, Oglesby
On this first hike of the season, we will explore the area located in the western half of the park including: French Canyon and Wildcat Canyon with their sparkling waterfalls, and Starved Rock itself which provides clear views of the bald eagles that nest along the Vermillion River. Transportation, instruction, and Yaktrax are included. Lunch is NOT included but a snack bar is available at the visitor center.

Rock Creek Conservation Area
Fall in love with Illinois' best winter sport - cross country skiing. Learn to glide over and across snowy terrain after a few hours of instruction. We will then travel along miles of trails, through prairie and forest. Transportation, instruction, ski equipment, and hot chocolate are included. Lunch is NOT included.

Starved Rock State Park, Oglesby
On the second hike to this park, we will explore the less-traveled canyons located in the eastern half of the park including: LaSalle Canyon, where an overhang allows hikers to circle the entire frozen falls, and Tonti Canyon, which offers a long, thin waterfall through which colors shimmer. Transportation, instruction, and Yaktrax are included. Lunch is NOT included.
March 9, 6 - 9 p.m.

Sugar Grove Nature Center, McLean
For this night hike, we will venture into the clear, cool darkness at this remote nature area. Night hikes offer a chance to view the stars. We will listen for nocturnal serenades of coyotes and owls as we travel through prairie and forest. Transportation, Yaktrax, and instruction are included.

Florida Waterways, FL
Join us for an epic exploration of some of the most beautiful natural places Florida has to offer. We will travel across Florida's gulf coast exploring Florida’s spring fed waterways and camping in tents. We will paddle these areas by kayak, at times jumping in and snorkeling in search of manatees. Transportation, equipment, instruction, and food for all camping days is included. There will be an interest meeting on Tuesday, January 24 from 5-6 p.m. in the SFC lobby to discuss this trip, or any other Adventure trips or programs. *Students MUST attend an interest meeting in order to register for the Spring Break 2017 trip.

Weldon Springs State Park, Clinton
As the weather warms up, we will stretch our legs on the variety of trails through Weldon Springs State Park that will take us along the lakeshore and between woodland slopes to hidden ponds. There is a lot to see in this 520 acre park. Instruction, transportation, and equipment are included. Lunch is NOT included.

Student Fitness Center Pool
Stand-Up Paddleboards, or SUPs, have become a popular water sport. This workshop will introduce you to this sport and provide instruction on skills such as standing, balancing, and maneuvering on a SUP board. No experience is necessary. All equipment and instruction is provided. Registration is NOT required. Workshops are first-come-first-served; those who do register prior to the workshop will have priority. After taking this workshop, consider getting out on a real lake during our Stand Up Paddleboarding trip to Dawson Lake on April 29.

Sand Ridge State Forest, Forest City
Backpacking is one of the best ways to travel. There is such a great sense of freedom when you carry everything you need for the weekend on your back and leave the car behind for the vast wilderness. We will be traveling to Sand Ridge State Forest, the largest state forest in Illinois, a unique biosphere that boasts sweeping expanses of native oak-hickory woodlands and unique sand prairies. This is an introductory backpacking trip, so no experience is necessary. We will travel between 5-11 miles per day. *Participants must have solid, ankle-supporting hiking boots. Work boots and rubber winter boots do not count. Instruction, transportation, equipment, and food is included.

Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo, WI
Devil's lake, formed over the course of a billion years through glacial activity, is nestled between large quartzite bluffs. In addition to great views, these bluffs offer some of the best climbing in the Midwest. We will spend our weekend hiking up to these bluffs and climbing them (top rope only). A wide variety of routes and difficulties are available for climbers of all skill levels. Transportation, instruction, equipment, and food for all camping days is included.

Evergreen Lake, Hudson
Fresh air, time on the water, sunsets... is there a better way to prepare for final exams? Join the Adventure program on a trip to nearby Evergreen Lake to canoe, kayak, and relax. Cost includes transportation, instruction, and all equipment. Wetsuits and water shoes are available upon advance request.

Dawson Lake, LeRoy
Make the most of spring by paddling, floating, and exploring with the Adventure Program. We will let you loose on Dawson Lake, a small lake surrounded by forests, just south of Normal. To start, we will provide instruction on land for those who need it, then head out to travel across the lake. Prior participation in a SUP workshop in the fitness center pool is encouraged but not required. Instruction, transportation, wetsuits and other equipment are included in trip cost.
